OH YE MOTHER-IN-LAW WHY ARE YOU SO CRUEL TO YOUR DAUGHTER-IN-LAW?

A lot was said yesterday about how a daughter-in-law should treat her mother-in-law. Today’s post is vice-versa ‘cause our attention will be drawn to mothers-in-law. Enjoy the story below and pick out the lesson (Please, note that the choice of names for this story is not affiliated to anyone).

Dolapo gets engaged to Abbey and Abbey tells her that his family is going to love her especially his mom. “You are like the daughter she never had”, Abbey tells Dolapo. Dolapo gets so excited and fantasized about her soon to be mother-in-law. She expects a super supportive and extra loving woman.

They got married shortly and few months after their wedding, the mother-in-law came visting. How did it go? Did Dolapo’s fantasy about her mother-in-law come true? Find out!

MOTHER-IN-LAW: (knocks the door), is anyone at home?
DOLAPO: (opens), Ha! Mama, welcome.
LESSON: They just got married; allow them to enjoy their home at least for the first year except she puts to bed.
MOTHER-IN-LAW: (she enters and looks around the house. She discovers that the house is so beautiful and a duplex). Sooooo, this is what my son has been spending all his money on?
DOLAPO: (Surprised at the comment) No mama, we only want the house to look good and accommodating.
LESSON: Which do you prefer, mansion or manger? Appreciate the beauty of the house. If you think they are spending too much, advise them politely and don’t create a scene.
MOTHER-IN-LAW: (Watches her prepare meal). What is this you are cooking? Is this the rubbish my son has been eating?
DOLAPO: (Sad, but manages to put on a smile). Yes ma, he loves and enjoys the meal.
LESSON: No now, don’t react that way. Things may have changed. Your son may no longer like the meal you prepared when he was in your house. Leave her to cook what she wants. Afterall, he is not just your son but her husband too. There are better ways to approach her.
MOTHER-IN-LAW: (Dolapo brings mama’s meal and the glass cup mistakenly fell and broke. Almost immediately, she shouts on her in the presence of her husband). Eeeewo! Chai! Common glass cup you cannot carry, you don’t even know how to do anything. (Faces her son), the food you are eating, I am the one that taught her o.
DOLAPO: She sobs and enters the room.
LESSON: Haba! You’ve gone too far. Don’t criticize her in front of her husband. What do you want to achieve? You want your son to hate her and love you? Even if you were the one that taught her how to cook, it’s not compulsory you say announce it.
MOTHER-IN-LAW: (She prepares in the morning to leave after staying for 3months, she calls her son on the phone to inform him)
DOLAPO: (She dished mama’s food and kept it on the dining table; she searched for mama all over the house, only to discover that she had gone. She sat down confused).
LESSON: A whole three months? It’s too much na. Gradually, you will loose your value if you are too common in that house. Also, you don’t have to leave without informing your daughter-in-law. She is as important as your son.

****THE END****

Every mother-in-law must know these.
     1. You are no longer in charge of your son; understand the leaving and cleaving part of the scriptures, there is a limit to what you can do.
      2. Accept her for who she is, you are different from her. Don’t expect her to have grown to your lev
     3. Your mother-son relationship will change after his marriage because he is now more responsible. Things cannot remain the same.

As a mother-in-law, I know it could be difficult relating with your daughter-in-law at times especially when she is rude and disrespectful. Don’t relent. Below are few things you should do.
    1.  Pray for her.
    2.  Compliment her.
    3.  Think the best of her.
    4.  Be thoughtful and generous.
    5.  Love Jesus, then you will love her.
I believe I have been able to balance issues from both sides. (This is the concluding part of yesterday’s post).
The truth is this, only Jesus can give you peaceful homes. The secret of becoming a good daughter-in-law and a good mother-in-law lies in Jesus. Call on Jesus to help you. Give your life to Christ today and you will  be renewed.

IF YOU PRAY FOR YOUR MOTHER IN LAW TO DIE, PREPARE TO DIE TOO!

Remember the last time you watched Patience Ozokwu acting the role of mother-in-law in one of those Nollywood films, you were like chaiiiiiiiiiiiiii! mother-in-law are wicked o. Instead of you to start praying for your own mother-in-law, you begin to plan wickedly for her.

It's a pity that most of the Nollywood movies paint mothers-in-law to be wicked, and yet, you continue to watch these same movies. These movies build up in your heart and ends up killing your home because sooner or later, you will begin to hate your mother-in-law.

Alot of women pretended to be kind to their mothers-in-law when they were engaged only to turn out terrible to them after they got married. That's when you start hearing things like "ME & MY HUSBAND ALONE". Well, just like I said earlier, if you pray that your Mother-in-law should die, know that you will also have a son as a child and his wife will pray that same prayer for you.

One thing I know is this, if you genuinely love your fiance/husband, you will definitely love his mother too. Don't forget that his mother is your mother too.

Of a truth, I understand and I know that some Mothers-in-law could be so cruel, but also, your behaviour could be the cause. How do you react to her when you are with her? Are you selfish? Do you treat her well? Do you visit or at least give her a phone call just to say hello? When she comes visiting, are you accommodating? Do you sleep on a giant bed and leave her sleeping on the mat in the sitting room? Do you treat her exactly the same way you treat your own biological mother?

The next question you may want to ask is " Ehn, I have done all these, I have been kind to her and yet she remains cruel, what should I do"? Then I will also ask you," if na your mama wey born you, wetin you go do?

Lemme help you out, all you need to do is to pray for her. Keep praying for her until she changes and even after she changes. Don't even think of repaying her by being wicked. Don't pay evil for evil, only your good can overcome. Please don't be discouraged. It looks difficult but that's the surest way.

I want to encourage every one reading this post to read the story of Ruth. It's just 4chapters. Right there, you will see the bond that existed between a daughter-in-law and a mother-in-law. There's nothing you ask God that He won't grant you(as long as it's His will). Tell God to give you a heart of love. In fact, God commands us to love.

I believe you are making a decision right now to love your mother-in-law. God bless you.
